Acceptable in the 80s

I got this dress last autumn but by the time it arrived it was way too cold to wear it so it has been confined to my wardrobe until now.

That said, it wasn't really in a wearable condition. There were mahusive shoulder pads and an elasticated waist (that came up ridiculously high on me) to consider. Every once in a while I'd notice it at the back of my wardrobe and wonder what to do with it. Eventually I stilled my fears of "ruining it completely" and put my seam ripper to work. Bye bye elasticated waist and jumbo shoulder pads. I am quite pleased with how it turned out. It works quite well as a tent dress methinks :)

The antibiotics are doing the trick btw - I've been celebrating with chocolate.

I genuinely forgot to remove my mp3 player. Ears plugged and wired - that's how I look most the time out and about. I am one of those people who negate their daily life wrapped in a music bubble.  Lia Ices at the time. I get terribly repetitive listening to the same albums for days and days before switching to something else.

That's picture overload right there, but I couldn't resist twinning up. ;)

  1. I am so glad to hear that the antibiotic are working, and you are feeling better.
Love the dress, and your fantastic photos. Pity no "codpiece" today, hehehehheh.
    I couldn´t resist, hehehe.
I like music, but I also love the sound of silence and the calm of my mind.

  2. It's wonderful! You did a great job - it doesn't look at all '80s anymore. I love the back and white plaid - I can imagine it will be versatie too!

  6. I think you did a wonderful job with this dress. The most I'm ever able to update anything is to remove the shoulder pads - everything else looks suspect once I've finished. I also absolutely love this coat - I'm a sucker for a fur collar.

  7. aw, what a cute outfit. the print on the dress is very similar to a vintage dress of mine.
best of all, though, I like the jacket.
I'd love it if you featured some of your favorite photoshop resources/tutorials. Curious how you make your "twins"

  8. I can't imagine the dress with shoulder pads ... or, for that matter, with an elasticized waist. It looks great now.

  15. I never would have thought this dress was from the '80s, it looks '50s with that collar and the length of the skirt-- you did a good job removing those shoulder pads. It would look great with a red belt too!

This dress is fantastic! The collar frames your face and neckline really beautifully. I have a few vintage dresses like that languishing in my wardrobe waiting for me to get them altered or reworked. Sometimes it takes a while.

  20. Awesome photos!! I wanna know how you did that last one! (I am so bad with photoshop.) The dress looks really good- nice job.

  21. Oh, wow! You are a master alterations manager and you have a cloning machine! Double threat, you are. But, in all seriousness, you did a fantastic job altering that dress--I can't tell that it used to be, well, how it used to be. I don't trust myself to do things like that (though I should give it a go, what's there to lose?). In short, the dress looks wonderful, good job!

Psst--I'm over at Just Take a Bow.

I'm catching up on blog reading, so I'll be commenting on older posts for a while... first off, the dress looks excellent. I can imagine how it was before, and it just looks great now! Also, I love that picture with your back and the leaves in front of it. Excellent composition. Hmmm, I'm seem to be developing an "excellent" problem...

  27. the fur collar on your jacket and the color of the jacket itself are both awesome. I love the twin photo and the earpieces in makes that picture seem more candid.
