Godolphin's stallion was here

Wandlebury Country Park is just outside Cambridge but not so easy to get to on a pushbike. With a car though it 's well within reach. I haven't been since we went with my parents last year but I think we'll pay another visit soon :)

Apparently all thoroughbred racehorses can be traced to three stallions: the Byerley Turk, the Darley Arabian, and the Godolphin Arabian. The latter is buried in the stables here at Wandlebury. When I was little I became briefly obsessed with horses, following suit in my BFF's craze. She is still an avid rider, I fell once and never rode again :) That is, I didn't actually fall. The pony I was riding had grumpily puffed up his belly when the saddle went on and as soon as he got bored with me he galloped off. Already loose, the saddle swung all the way around. I stayed on though, just not on his back but under his belly, upside down. I am not easily shaken off :D

Long before that I used to spend a lot of time at the farm next doors. The neighbour girl and I would play princess (her in the role of princess Sissi and me cast as one of the princely men competing for her affections), we'd pin cardboard dashboards on our bikes and make motorbike noises as we raced down the road or play house on a big pile of wood (it made sense at the time). Sometimes we took Flower for a ride. No saddles then. She was the most placid, good natured pony there ever was and lived to a ripe old age too.

A most excellent weekend to you all!

great photos, what a perfect location!

I never properly learnt to ride despite growing up in the country and with lots of people in my school riding. I was a little scared whenever I've actually done it, and I guess the horses felt that, so it never worked. I'd like to try it now though, I think I would probably quite like it.

Happy weekend! And what a delightful colourful addition you are to it!

I'm allergic to horses, so my love affair didn't last either. But in Grade 2, I pretended I had eight horses and told everyone I did, and everyone believed me. One of the teachers from an older year would invite me into her office to talk about horses, because she had one too. I think my mother finally had to tell her when it got too embarrassing, but explained that I wasn't exactly lying, I had just convinced myself that I did, or soon would, have these horses. I was mortified... ; )

I love your skirt, it's so pretty! I've tried horseriding a couple of times when I've been on holiday, I decided it wasn't for me either.

  8. I love the colour of your cardigan & coat and the setting is almost fairytale-like. It's also great to hear the backstory behind the location and the significance to history.

I'm wondering, is 'supermarket' a brand or a store? I hadn't heard of it before.

  22. I'm thinking Stef, like red is mine, blue must be your favorite color......you have so many outfits featuring this and in every single one of them you play with its many shades so well!!!

I am astounded by the fact that even your photoshoot location features some shades of blue, in the most obscure places on could ever imagine. How do you find these places.....and do you decide an outfit around them...or is it the other way around?

    Love
